Offered at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague (hereafter FEE CTU), the doctoral study program History of Sciences and Technology (hereafter DSP HST) provides a unique platform, combining history with contemporary technology. Postgraduates – PhD students can get not only a retrospective insight into the developments of technological thinking and technology that chronologically shaped the present era; the program also offers other subjects that are historically repetitive and, therefore, can link up to and make ample use of the state-of-the-art computer, mathematical and technological knowledge. Taking place in the renowned Historic Laboratory of (Electrical)Technology, DSP HST provides Prague´s FEE CTU with a competitive advantage over other technical universities with electrical engineering specializations, priding itself on broad-based international cooperation as well as models of double degree/co-tutelle supervision of doctoral theses. Needless to add, in addition to graduates of Czech and Slovak universities, PhD students, male and female, specializing in the HST branch and related disciplines (e.g. economic and social history etc.) from all over the world are admitted.
Through their tutors and lecturers, members of the DSP HST Subject Area Board (hereafter SAB), postgraduates have access to collaboration in grants, publishing opportunities and other creative pursuits (exhibitions, preparation in staging conferences, appearance in the media and other popularizing projects etc.) and to systematic studies of wider historical and historical-technical disciplines.
It is vital for all the potential applicants for the HST branch to contact Prof. PhDr. Marcela Efmertová, CSc. (efmertov@fel.cvut.cz), Chair of the DSP HST SAB, two months prior to submitting their applications at the latest.
