Entrance interview

There are two deadlines for receiving applications for DSP in each academic year – April 30 and October 31. At the proposal of the Chair of DSP HST SAB (following agreement of the entire SAB), Vice-dean may call an extraordinary term of admission procedure for DSP HST. Announcement of a special term will be published on FEE CTU´s Official Notice Board.

Comprising a two-round selection procedure, entrance interview is held in front of DSP HST SAB. Its aim is to identify applicant´s prerequisites for studying the given DSP HST, for autonomous scholarly creative work and publishing activities, and to check his or her adequate level of specialized and linguistic knowledge.

The two-round admission procedure for DSP HST consists of written tests and orals.

Both stages of the entrance interview are designed to test primarily applicants´ specialized knowledge, their ingenuity and readiness for autonomous scientific research in the chosen branch. Oral entrance interview comes complete with a specialized discussion of the submitted doctoral thesis project. In keeping with the accreditation regulations of the HST branch, entrance interview is conducted in Czech or English, eventually in a world language in accordance with the specific terms of the entrance interview (for the co-tutelle/double degree module).

Vice-dean of FEE CTU may permit applicants to hold their entrance interview at an alternative date after they have asked for an alternative date in writing and the request has been delivered to Vice-dean´s hands on the third day after the regularly fixed date of holding the interview at the latest. Vice-dean shall grant the request if applicants cannot attend the scheduled interview at the regular date due to serious and well-documented reasons.

Prerequisite for admission is to submit application, complete with all the above-mentioned annexes, including documents on finished master´s degree by the stipulated date and on subsequent passing of the two-round admission procedure.

Applicants for study will be admitted depending on the order of their results scored in the selection procedure until the capacity of the full-time and combined DST HST courses has been reached.

Admitted for study will be applicants, who have scored a minimum of 70 points in their oral entrance interview (having been invited only after passing written tests from history: primarily History of Sciences and Technology and economic and social history of the 18th – 20th centuries and selected language) and who have placed - in the number of points scored - among the previously stipulated maximum total of seven (7) admitted applicants according to the NAU (National Accreditation Bureau) accreditation for DSP HST in the given academic year. Applicant´s overall points score is a sum total of partial points evaluation of his or her performance in the individual items of the oral entrance interview. Overall, maximum of 100 points can be scored.

Entrance interview - oral (max. 100 points) consists of the following categories:

1. Expertise (max. 60 points):

a) specialized discussion of the submitted project of one´s doctoral thesis in the HST branch and its methodology, plus specialized literature and sources relating to the project (max. 30 p.),

b) evaluation of applicant´s expertise and track record in specialized and publishing activities relating to the study branch so far (max. 15 b.),

c) display of applicant´s knowledge in his or her own study of the HST branch (max. 15 p.).

c) linguistic correctness (max. 15 p.).

Announcement of admission procedure results
